I beg to differ.
Seeing the positive abilities of allies like how long they CcEd the enemy or how much damage they tanked without dying etc would improve overall positivity.

I think youâre right about that. In fact, thatâs the first screen that AoV shows at the end of a match â your teamâs best stats, at which point you can give them a thumbs up or not. (Thereâs no downvoting in AoV, though you can report people from the detailed end-of-match screen if needed. You get feedback immediately as to whether the system took action based on your report, too!)
Just like OW when you select the MVP too.
Itâs very easy to suggest this, but you should consider how difficult it is for many people to communicate through writing. Just look at the misunderstandings that happen in this forum, and thatâs without the pressure of having to layout a strategy during a death timer. Also consider that not everyone shares a common language, and remember that this will be ineffective in the middle of teamfights. Also, you canât just say something like âIâm going to split-push; you four need to distract the enemy team near top lane.â Chances are, not everyone will understand what that really means, or the best way to actually accomplish it.
Iâm not saying itâs a bad idea, itâs just not as easy as that.
- Extend the duration of the draft phase: Instead of 30s, make it like the pros, give them an extra 90s âwaste timeâ for them to discuss the picks and strategy and the pre-entering/swapping heroes time from 30s to 60s. It will make things longer but the effects are significant.
I think thereâs plenty of time already. Weâre not pros and donât need super complicated and flexible strategies. The extra time youâre suggesting would not be enough to get across truly complicated gameplans, and I think it would just allow for more confusion. Weâd be better off building guides and strategy primers here in the forum, or on reddit, and having the app feature them in the community tab or something. Knowledge does get out there, if itâs written down.
- Show people the causes behind toxicity.
I agree with this! But⌠how? And what do you, personally, think are the causes behind toxicity?
- Straight-up merciless punishment.
I donât think it needs to be merciless, because there are other steps to take first. Iâd increase the transparency of the karma system, so player can see it working. This would include more definitive punishment (but not merciless), while helping inspire some trust in a system that does structurally work, but is often ignored, which reduces its actual effectiveness.
thanks for reminding me about the sad ending on FF15 ;-;
Imma PM you later about this after I wake up 9h later. FYI, itâs 0347 here.
No, if itâs about this topic, post it here. You already started a new thread for a repeat topic⌠Donât break up the discussion even more, please.
I think SEMC is taking good first steps towards reducing toxicity with the dodging elo loss, but they have much farther to go.
A few months ago, I was added after a game by someone I captained for. That person spammed me with the message âKill all n***ersâ. Note that I didnât do anything to troll that person, I was just being a (very, very ) bad captain, and maybe told him to âBuy defense items!â (Rip you will be missed) a few times because he was getting deleted in fights, following which he sold all his items and bought aegis and metal jackets. I emailed SEMC with the screenshot, havenât heard from them since, finally decided to drop it (I know it doesnât sound like I have >.>). Also this was on the NA server where people are more likely to get offended by racial slurs like that. I hope nobody else has to receive such a toxic message ever
Mmm so there is another way to achieve this: preset quotes and pings. Chatting will be ok but to avoid this problem, I think adding more preset quotes and pings will be a nice idea.
Problem is that nobody new bothers reading our guides. Medium players like me may but newbies? I donât think so.
For 3 and 4, I have 2 links that you may find interesting
Real talk.
The actual enjoyment part of a MOBA requires someone else to suffer. Itâs like that for all PvP games, but itâs particularly bad for MOBAs.
For example, if the enemy Kestrel camps me and forced me to go back, the enemy team might be thinking
âWow, the power of friendship succeeds once again, this Kensei is bad omegalul.â
Meanwhile, Iâm there like
âFaking noob Kestrel broken hitbox canât last hit reeeeeeeee enemy bot big poosi manâ (May be over exaggerated)
Someone has to lose. This losing factor is even worse when your teammate loses you the game. It creates toxicity. Nobody loses in Vainglory and then smiles to themselves, exclaimes out loud âWow, I got really outplayed on that one and my whole team lost by an equal margin, so I guess they really deserved that win and we all deserve the loss!â
The real way to have fun playing a MOBA is playing with friends. Screw all this SoloQ shiet, 5 man party and just make memes. Problem is, this game is a mobile game. Most mobile devices canât handle a Discord and Vainglory connection without having some sort of lag or frame drop. If VG was a PC game than that would be easy, but mobile devices inheritely succ ass. With the socialisation nutered for half the playerbase (plus, most of the playerbase is a bunch of edgy pre-teens who donât want to speak anyway), making a sense of community is hard.
Iâm lucky. I made a guild and Iâve been playing with the same idiots for more than half a year. We use discord every game, and after a few games, we might just chill out and talk for a few hours. If everyone had that sense of community, Iâm sure we wouldnât have nearly as much toxicity, but thatâs literally impossible. All SEMC can do is patch up what they can, but they canât patch up their platform or playerbase.
Note: I use my phone on Discord and my iPad on VG. This is how you pro gamer kids.
Opening up a chat while dead might work. This offers communication options without interfering.
Allowing us to set up new saved messages while dead allows us to communicate those messages with a single click.
âSpread out to avoid aoe damageâ
âWatch the lanes minions will take turretâ
âEnemy is splitpushingâ
âEnemy incoming back upâ
âRecall Iâll defend turretâ
âI need to shop protect the turretâ
âFocus down their midlanerâ
Stuff like this would help a lot.
Even allowing us to set a few more standardized messages would be a lifesaver.
So tell me, why is Blizzard succeeding at the part while we are failing? Everything you said is objectively correct but tell me why with the same type of game which is hero-based fighting, Blizzard is succeeding at dealing with toxicity while we are failing at containing that?
Firstly, I really donât think theyâre doing a good job. This is just MY opinion, but after all the controversy in the pro league, itâs clear that Blizzard is over doing their toxicity approach, to the point of censorship. Simply censoring anything that MIGHT make anyone mad is much easier than actually deciding if itâs actually something someone would be offended by.
Secondly, Overwatch is a PC game. Their job is 10 times easier considering the fact that itâs not on the worst platform specs wise. Iâm 99% sure itâs easier to get information about someone trolling (in-game) on OW than on VG.
Thirdly, Blizzard hasnât solved toxicity. They might have lowered the rates, but if I play three ranked matches in OW thereâs an almost guaranteed chance that at least one player is going to be a whiny baby who cusses out their team. If toxicity is still a regular thing in an average joeâs games, then you have NOT succeeded. Youâre only doing a little bit better.
Iâm going to repeat myself again. It is not possible to successfully remove toxicity in a PvP game. The most you can do is have a bandaid fix, to try and reduce it. Blizzard has an easier job compared to VG because of the platforms and the amount of money in Blizzards pockets. They can put on more bandaids like a better report system or troll detection or whatever, but thatâs all they are. Systems to reduce toxicity. IMO Blizzard is actually doing a BAD job dealing with Toxicity by censoring big community names, having attrocious metas and constantly subjecting people to a lootbox system that can instantly send a player on tilt.
TL;DR - No, I think Blizzard is shiet too.
I donât even want to start on this one.
Or how about their latest system, the Endorsement system? If we had that, toxicity would be reduced a lot 'cause if you play nice, youâll get rewards like skins and stuffs.
Itâs Karma 2.0.
Nobody cares about Karma.
Thereâs the concern of people either abusing the system. Things like people paying for Endorsements (By sniping each other) or people begging for certain endorsements (Which I just personally despise).
People are still going to butt heads with this type of system, theyâll just never talk to each other about it and stay silent so society thinks theyâre good people.
Itâs really messed up once I say it like that, doesnât it.
Plus, maybe the rewards wonât even be worth it, and nobody is going to care. LOL also has a similar honours system where you have a badge based on your honours given by other players, and literally nobody cares how many honours you have. Theyâll treat you the same as everyone else, which is something I actually appreciate.
Lol OWL twitch chatâŚ
They banned the word âlmaoâ and âtrapâ XD
Twitch chat is basically one definition of the word âtoxic.â Lol
But itâs ok, now that they banned literally everything word, you canât do anything
lets do the same for vg. everybody just gets the blackscreen bug, so no games are played and no toxicity is seen.
i like that idea. it also works unlike any other.
Nah next hero is gonna be released and its perks gives it lots of buffs if there is a SAW on your team. And SAW is suffering from a bug that makes his range the same amount as the turret and he does the same amount of damage as the turret and it scales per bleeding stack applied onto the enemy. What an oddly specific bug?
