About Those Taka & Joule Skin Boxes

Yeah, ok.

I havent really finished the battle pass much nowdays since i kinda play less than usual due to connection issues with unstable ping, i only Que matches when my indicator is within 207ms and below which is my definition of playable. So i might try to play more next season to get further in the next pass.

Completely ignored the entire comment, yeah ok.

I will say, one indirectly good thing that comes out from this RNG practice is that SEMC is forced to produce even higher quality skins to make people feel like the risk is worth it.

Ice for rng chest is technically fine. Yes, it’s sub-optimal for the consumer, but let’s be honest here. Gambling + mobile is clearly designed for the top spenders: kids. Mobile is inherently more lootbox heavy. That’s another discussion on it’s own.

What I dislike is rewards being truly random. There should be a bad luck prevention on getting duplicate skins and blueprints from rewards and such. Maybe based on x amount of skins owned, % increase in chance of getting an UNOWNED skin? Then, at least probability wouldn’t be so far against you. This would be an acceptable way to help the vets without ruining rewards for newbies.

I really dislike getting duplicates. Maybe there could be a mechanic where you get some ice back if the duplicate if it’s a legendary or se skin? I have lots of essence which is really useless for me and other veteran players who have so many skins, we rarely get blueprints to spend essence on.

What do you guys think?

I don’t do loot box pulls. I get that it is an industry-wide practice, but I choose not to participate. I am glad nations are requiring posted odds and “bad luck prevention”. But loot boxes are worse than gambling because at least with gambling you can cash out. Loot boxes use a gambling mechanic to sell access to a digital art that you don’t even possess. If the company folded tomorrow, then you are out the money and the art is gone.

I have spent money to support the game. I have some original LE skins which used to provide a sunlight boost. That change will probably keep me from ever spending money on VG again.

It will never happen, firstly it will “pump a great feel” into a “having most” player that unlocks something he doesn’t have, as the chances of that are low and the feeling will be similar to casino machine spin win. Secondly, the rich whales will spend X amount of money to unlock everything and then every month spend around X $$$ and done. With the random system they will spend a lot more money + more you have, the more you are into that rng (as the new players will like the unlocked skins and heroes even if random). That’s why there are a lot of locking from straight ICE/opals buy, to force the people with money to rng to “have it all unlocked”.

Early in the morning, so I hope I make sense.

Calculate how much money is that “bad luck prevention” and you will see that it’s still not ok at all. You want to pay more for a single skin than triple A game developed from a big game company from hundred of highly payed and skilled professionals for years and from the ground - up? Seriously, the lootboxes for me are predatory, exploiting, giving gambling habits in the kits and adults, should be illegal. How the industry could grow for 25 years without any lootboxes and nowdays some game publishers (yeah, publishers, with those 12 million dollar bonuses managers) states how they need a lootboxes in t heir 60$ game to stay afloat?!

Oh, common, everything nowdays is for the profit and greedy through the roof.

And this, people, is why we can’t have nice things get loot boxes everywhere.

Oof his luck but its a new player so he probably outvalued its cost anyways.

Why cant they give out the skin at release for a higher than average price. They used to do that and thats how I payed for my NetherWorld Fortress T1 Skin and Love Bited Blackfeather skin😷

Actually, quality has been slipping. A couple legendary skins released at he beginning of the year had new particle effects, animations, and sounds. Panda Joule reuses Snow Monster Joule’s A ground effect, and the persistent glow from T3 Joule’s B, not to mention that neither of them have new sound effects.

Well, actual skin quality is subjective. The thing is, are they “quality” enough to lure people in the RNG trap? OR… is SEMC’s marketing clever enough to make bad probabilities sound good?

Personally, it’s both.

It’s been brought up in at least one other thread. I’m quite pleased, honestly.

I feel like it’s purely because they don’t want to make a greedy image of themselves for the new/returning players during the the full cross-platform launch. I really wouldn’t be surprised if the skins next patch go back to being rng-only.

Maybe. I think there are a lot of people who will buy skins with ICE but won’t RNG a skin. When they lock skins away behind loot boxes, the skins lose some of the hype after a month for ICE only people. They should be offering both from day 1.
